Good Karma Golf Tournament 2014
We invite you to join us for the 5th Annual Good Karma Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by the Scott M. Fisher Foundation Fund, which is part of the Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services (RRCS).
The Tournament will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, August 8, 2014, at the Culpeper Country Club where our friend, Scott, was a member. A special awards ceremony and dinner will follow.
Family and friends formed the Scott M. Fisher Foundation Fund in honor of our friend who, despite his depression, was so helpful to others. In his memory, we want to continue his practice of helping people. The proceeds from this event will go to RRCS to support their efforts to raise awareness of the warning signs of depression and suicide, share valuable information on how and where to seek help, and provide emergency services.
Approximately 30,000 Americans die each year by suicide. Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for 15 to 24-year-olds and the 2nd leading cause for 25 to 35-year-olds. About two-thirds (2/3) of the people who die by suicide are depressed at the time of their deaths. Untreated depression is the leading cause of suicide. On average, 1 person dies by suicide every 16.2 minutes.
Knowing the warning signs and where to get proper assistance can help prevent suicide. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention indicates that 50 to 75 % of all those lost to suicide gave some warning signs and clues about their distress and suicidal intention to a friend or family member. With proper training, those at risk of suicide can be identified and helped. Suicide is everyone’s business and anyone can help to prevent suicide.
In the last four (4) years, with help from people like you, we have donated over $74,000 to support depression awareness and suicide prevention. Funds have supported local prevention programs such as After School Arts Program, Empowering Culpeper, Hospice of the Rapidan, SAFE, Culpeper Town PD Law Explorer’s Program, Culpeper Youth Football League, Options Program, Culpeper Library Teen Programs, Literacy Program, Goodwill Teen Programs, Virginia Pregnancy Centers, RRCS Media Campaign and Gatekeeper Training Programs, and a local Community Prevention Conference.
There is a growing need for our support! This year, with your help, we plan to expand our efforts by increasing the field of golfers, and the number of sponsors, volunteers, and educators supporting our cause.
You can join with us to help make a difference in the life of a person at risk of suicide in Culpeper by participating in the 5th Annual Good Karma Memorial Golf Tournament.
If you are a golfer, you can take part in the tournament and dinner. Your $100 contribution includes golf, “goodie bag”, dinner, the special awards ceremony and program.
If you would like to help even more, we invite you to become a tournament sponsor. Our $1000 Gold Sponsors, $500 Silver Sponsors, and $250 Bronze sponsors will be seated at VIP tables for dinner, recognized at our awards ceremony, and featured in the program. In addition, the Gold Sponsorship includes one foursome with dinner, the Silver Sponsorship includes two golfers with dinner, and the Bronze Sponsorship includes a golfer with dinner as well as a Hole Sponsorship.
For $100, you can sponsor a hole during the Tournament. You will be recognized with a special sign at the tee box.
We know Scott would be very pleased with your support.
He loved to help others and he loved to play golf…especially with his grandfather, who he called G PA .We included “Good Karma” in the name of the tournament based on Scott’s license plate. You may have seen it on his red (his favorite color) car around town.
We look forward to seeing you at the tournament!
With Good Karma,
Scott M. Fisher Foundation Fund of RRCS
